Cozy is an offline journaling app for Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPad. Your journal is a folder of files on your own computer, with no account, no cloud and no server holding a copy. It writes, opens and searches every entry with no connection at all. Your entries never leave it. The license check is the one call it needs, and a check that gets no answer changes nothing. It's $49 once.
Your journal never goes to a server of mine. I built Cozy when I couldn't find an offline journal I trusted.
What "offline" means here
- No login. There's no account to authenticate, so the app never asks the internet for permission to open.
- Your journal never leaves. Entries are read and written on your disk. Nothing you write is uploaded, and there is no server holding a copy of it.
- Online once, to activate. Activating your license checks the key once, so it knows how many computers it covers. After that Cozy keeps writing offline for as long as you like. It checks in now and then, and a check that gets no answer changes nothing at all.
- Files on your computer. Your journal is a folder. Reading and writing happens locally, the way it did in the '90s.
Privacy, or a laptop with no Wi-Fi
People who go looking for an offline journal usually want one of two things. Privacy: entries shouldn't leave the machine. Or reliability: the app should still open on a laptop that hasn't seen Wi-Fi in 3 days. Cozy answers both with the same shrug: there is no server. On a PC it matters twice, because Apple Journal doesn't run there at all, which is why Cozy is also a journal app for Windows.
Travel, cabins, long flights
Cozy opens the same way whether you're on fiber internet or in airplane mode. The calendar still works. Photos you've already added still load. New entries save instantly because they save to a file on your disk.
When you do come back online
Nothing happens. Cozy doesn't sync, doesn't upload, doesn't catch up. If you've put your journal folder inside iCloud or Dropbox, those services will sync the new files, but that's iCloud or Dropbox doing it, not Cozy.

“I've been using it for a week and I do not regret the purchase at all! :) Very solid, intuitive and aesthetic. I synced with two of my computers to be able to access it from bed, which is where I like to do my digital journaling, and works like a charm. I hope your app continues to grow!”
